State Testing Information

Each spring, students in California’s public schools take the Smarter Balanced Assessments that evaluate knowledge of the State Standards for English/language arts, Math and Science. The assessment system, launched in 2015, uses computer-adaptive tests and performance tasks that allow students to show what they know and what they are able to do.

Smarter Balanced summative assessment results include student scores, achievement levels and descriptors that describe performance. These assessment results are one of several tools used to measure a student’s academic performance in English/language arts, Math and Science. Smarter Balanced Assessment results are best interpreted alongside other available information about a student’s academic achievement, including such measures as classroom assignments and grades, classroom tests, report cards and teacher feedback.

Information on the assessments and results can be found on the
California Department of Education’s website.
